Simple ways to Reduce your Oil Consumption!

Wether you are concerned about the Alberta tar sands, climate change, oil spills, the danger of
drilling in the Arctic, or oil wars being fought in your name, we do have a valuable tool to fight
back, and that is with your money.

Here are over a dozen ways you can take back power from Big Oil, and at the same time you're
guaranteed to save a whole pile of money!

Carpool, cycle and use public transit to get around and commute to work.

Choose products packaged without plastic and recycle or re-use bags and containers of products that are.

Buy local, organic fruits and vegetables or grow your own! (fertilizers and pesticides are often based on oil).

Buy household products (shampoo, soap, cleaner, etc.) based on natural ingredients, not oil derivatives.

Choose, whenever possible, locally produced products (less transport involved).

Buy clothes made from natural fibers such as wool, organic cotton or hemp - not from oil.

Use reusable food and drink containers for work and at play such as at picnics and summer festivals.

Quit the bottled water habit. Often bottled water is of worse water quality than your local tap water.

Fly less.

Demand that your government encourage renewable energy instead of subsidizing oil.

Buy clothes and household products in second hand shops - no extra energy has been spent to make a used article, plus often your money will be going to a charity.

Don't accept plastic bags when you are out shopping. Bring your own bags or baskets.

Before building or renovating your home, research and incorporate passive solar heating, natural cooling, solar water heaters, water catchment, natural building and renewable energy.

Turn down the heat. When you are cold, first put on a sweater.
